Every championship team needs a floor general. From 1982-1997 Northwestern College Women’s Athletics was blessed with the winning leadership of Sherri Holm, first on the court and then as a coach. As a student athlete, Sherri set the tone with her hard work, love for the game, team focus, and walk with God. A point guard in basketball, Sherri sparked her team by leading in steals and assists while netting 1,146 career points. As a setter, Sherri paced her volleyball team in both serving percentage and setting. Her efforts contributed to two NCCAA National Championships in basketball (1984, 1985) and a fourth place showing in the NCCAA National Volleyball Tournament (1983). In addition to the three-peat honors as UMAC All-Conference and NCCAA All-District in basketball and volleyball, Sherri had the special distinction in 1985 of being named an NCCAA All-American in both sports.
Upon graduation with an accounting degree in 1986, Sherri moved from the free throw line to the Eagles’ sideline as an assistant basketball coach. She took over as head coach in 1991, posting a 98-69 record over six seasons and directing her teams to three UMAC championships, two District titles, and two NCCAA National Tournaments (1994, 1995). Three times she was voted UMAC Coach of the Year. In 1997, motivated by the same God-given heart to reach the lost as in her college days with Student Missionary Fellowship, Sherri led her squad on a missions outreach to Mexico. In recent years Sherri’s “coaching ministries” have moved homeward as a wife and home-educating mother with four children. She also volunteers at a local elementary school and coaches youth sports in the Eagan Athletic Association.
