PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

All of our student athletes who participate in intercollegiate athletics at University of Northwestern St. Paul must have a completed physical, sickle cell test results, a thorough medical history questionnaire, have read and signed all risk waivers, and demonstrate proof of primary insurance that covers athletic injuries.

All of this information must be on file with Athletic Training prior to participation.

All student-athletes may login to the electronic medical records system and update/complete all required medical information on or after June 1.

The deadline for completion is August 1.

Athletics Department Mission Statement

Athletics at Northwestern exists to utilize sports as the conduit for spiritual, educational, social and athletic growth of our student-athletes, encouraging them to maximize all their gifts.

Athletics Department Purpose

Athletics at Northwestern exists to enhance the mission of the university and honor Christ through a lifetime of competitive Christ-like attitudes, sportsmanship, speech, and actions. Daily devotions, prayer, as well as community outreach and missions trips also make up the uniqueness of athletics at our institution.

Sports Medicine Department Mission

Our mission as the Sports Medicine staff at Northwestern is to provide the highest quality of medical care available for all our student-athletes. Our primary goal is to care about the student-athletes' overall wellness and provide the medical resources necessary to benefit our athletes. This is goal reached by our staff with the focus of preventing athletic injuries occurring. However, with the awareness that athletic injuries are inevitable, our team is prepared and knowledgeable to perform immediate care, evaluate and treat athletic injuries, and provide post-injury rehabilitation for our student-athletes. In this goal we want to be able to demonstrate Christ-centered care throughout in order to enhance the mission of the university and honor Christ through the care that we provide for our student-athletes.


About The Profession of Athletic Training

Athletic training is a specialty in the field of sports medicine. Certified athletic trainers collaborate with other medical professionals to provide high quality care to their patients. An athletic trainer is a skilled and credentialed medical professional that provide services pertaining to:
 
1. Injury and Illness Prevention and Wellness Promotion
2. Examination, Assessment and Diagnosis
3. Immediate and Emergency Care
4. Therapeutic Interventions
5. Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility
