Basketball 1979-'83, Baseball 1980-'83, Football 1981
As a student and athlete, Paul Hubbard (1979-1983), demonstrated all-around excellence. On the field of play, “Hubby” epitomized the all-around player leading the Eagles in three sports. Paul the basketball player was a four-year starter, contributing to a team that won three conference titles, a NCCAA national championship, and three NCCAA second place finishes. A shooting guard/forward and three-time all-conference selection, the 1982 All-American averaged over 16 points per game during his NWC career. Paul also showed all-around talent on the baseball field as a shortstop, pitcher, hitter, and top base stealer, being named all-conference three years. The staff ace for three years, Paul led the team in ERA, innings, and strikeouts and tossed a no-hitter as a senior. As a better, the two-time co-captain never hit under .315 and capped his career with a .406 senior season. For one year, Paul also proved he could catch and kick the football, playing wide receiver and punter for a conference co-champion in 1981.
Off the field, Paul provided all-around leadership by initiating a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) group on-campus and directing for two years the basketball and volleyball intramural programs. Paul also worked in admissions, co-hosted a teen call-in radio show, and served as a student ambassador for the college. Since graduation, Paul has displayed the same all-out passion and all-around versatility in youth and sports ministries. In addition to sitting on the NWC Alumni Council, Paul has spent over 27 years in youth ministry, serving as a pastor to youth and family, directing FCA sports camps, coaching youth sports, and leading a national speaking ministry.
