Short and sweet. Burning up 100 yards in 9.7 seconds and 200 yards in 21.4, Kenroy made swift work of breaking the tape for Northwestern. For four seasons “Speed” anchored a track team that in 1977 and 1978 won Northwestern’s first NCCAA national championships. A four-year All-American, Kenroy captured eleven national gold medals in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and the 400 and 1600-meter relays. In 1975 and again 1978 he was named “Outstanding Athlete” of the NCCAA Track Meet. A respected team leader, Kenroy twice earned MVP honors and in 1978 was chosen Captain. With fast-break speed and lightning quick defense, Kenroy also was a force on the basketball court. In 1975, the speedy guard helped his conference champion Eagles earn their first NLCAA national tournament berth.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, Kenroy has “run the race” for most of his life. After graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration, he sprinted home to South Dakota and family farming where he and wife, Sharla (Hofer ’78), raised cash crops, livestock, and five God-honoring children. A leader and teacher in his church, Kenroy also helped start area prison ministries through Prison Bible Fellowship.
