SUPERIOR, Wis.- The 2024 UMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships are off and running (pun… intended) and the UNW Men's Track and Field Team sits in fifth place overall after the day one results.
The Eagles currently have 21 team points and are ahead of North Central and Bethany Lutheran. Wisconsin-Superior, the team hosting the meet, has built a sizable lead after the first day of competition.
For the Eagles, it was the freshman
Jah'Kiing Joseph (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Heritage) leading the way. The Eagle made a big impression on day one of his first ever collegiate championship event. Joseph finished 2
nd overall in the 400m, missing an individual win by a mere .3 seconds. His time in the finals was 52.33 seconds. The freshman then went on to finish second in the Long Jump, once again missing out on a win by a small margin. His final jump distance was 6.34m, trailing only a jump of 6.61m by an athlete from Superior.
Joseph's day didn't end there as he joined
John Shevchuk (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine),
Nathan Eikom (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool), and
Ashton Lofton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) on the Eagles' 4x200 relay team. UNW's quartet of sprinters finished at 1:39.14 which was good enough for fourth place overall.
Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) picked up a top ten finish in the 1 Mile Run finishing with a time of 4:53.90.
Nathan Eikom (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) finished two spots behind his teammate, 12
th place overall, with a time of 4:57.70. In another distance event, it was
Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) who finished in ninth place overall with a time of 18:19.32 in the 5000M Run.
