COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field team opened their outdoor season at the Optimistic Open, hosted by St. John's University. The Eagles delivered strong performances across distance, field, and sprint events.
Leading the way for UNW was Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) in the 10000m, who turned in an impressive performance with a personal best time of 34:58.95 to place 13th. Fellow distance runner Caleb Phillips (Poplar, Wis./South Shore) also competed in the 10000m, finishing 14th with a time of 38:07.01.
In the steeplechase, Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool) recorded a top-10 finish, placing 9th in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:54.40. Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) represented Northwestern in the 400m, finishing 14th with a time of 54.10 seconds.
In the field events, freshman Remi Fagerland (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Central) made his outdoor debut in the javelin throw, finishing 11th with a mark of 45.25m (148' 5"). The Eagles also saw multiple competitors in the long jump, led by Cody Johnson (Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy), who placed 16th with a jump of 5.42m (17' 9.5"). Reid Jelks (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) followed with a 19th-place finish, recording a jump of 5.08m (16' 8").

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround and will take the track and field team down the road for the Hamline Invite on Monday, starting at 4:00 PM.
