ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field team enjoyed the beautiful weather at this afternoon's meet at Hamline University. After a one-day break, the Eagles showed no sign of fatigue with the quick turnaround.
Remi Fagerland (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Central) got the team off to a great start, winning the javelin event with a throw of 46.22m (151' 7"). In just his second time in this event for UNW, Fagerland added nearly a meter to his personal best, extending his current lead in the UMAC. He also threw the shot put and finished 16th with an 8.65m (28' 4.5") throw.
Samuel Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool) also competed in the shot put, finishing just behind Fagerland with a season-best throw of 8.10m (26' 7"). Otis continued to be the do-it-all man for UNW, also running the 800 meters and the 200 meters. In the 800, he placed 18th with a time of 2:09.92, and in the 200, he finished 22nd with a 27.31-second time.
Will Dorch (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) attacked both of his races, collecting two season-best times in the 200 meters and the 100-meter dash. In the 200, he finished 16th with a time of 24.29, while he recorded a time of 11.64 in the 100 for a 22nd-place finish.
The Eagles had four runners in the 800 meters, with the top three UNW athletes finishing within seven seconds of each other.
Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) led the charge, placing 13th with a time of 2:05.50. Otis was next, and Dueber came in behind him in 19th-place at 2:12.86.
Cody Mercado (Arden Hills, Minn./Fourth Baptist Christian School) rounded out the Eagle lineup in the race and took home a personal record on his 2:47.87 finish. Mercado earned another PR in the 1,500m, clocking a 6:05.36 time.
Reid Jelks (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) and
Cody Johnson (Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) battled in the long jump, finishing 13th and 14th. Jelks jumped to a new season record of 5.37m (17' 7.5"), and Johnson followed with a leap of 3.97m (13' 0.25").
