DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's track and field team drove up to Duluth on Saturday to compete at St. Scholastica in their indoor season opener. The Eagles were one of four NCAA DIII teams competing in the meet alongside NCAA DII University of Minnesota Duluth.
Jamon Howard (Fargo, ND/Fargo South) led UNW with a second place finish in the Long Jump with a jump that is the fourth best in program history. The senior took the silver with a leap of 6.36 meters, with only a DII athlete from UMD finishing ahead of him. Howard added a sixth place finish in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.41 seconds.
John Shevchuk (Ham Lake, MN) had the best 60 Meter Dash performance for Northwestern, finishing in fourth at 7.39 seconds.
The team of
Ben Ammermann (Litchfield, MN/Litchfield),
Brent Reller (Melrose, Minn./Melrose Area), Schevchuk, and
Collin McDonald (Minot, ND/Minot) combined to take fourth place in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:48.12 minutes.
Along with his fourth place finish in the 4x400, Ammermann led UNW in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 54.69 seconds.
Jacob Drury (Becker, Minn./Becker), who showed his basketball skills by winning the Chick-fil-A Halftime Halfcourt Shot contest last week, placed fifth in the High Jump with a height of 1.63 meters.
In the 400 Dash, McDonnald placed sixth at 55.75 and Reller took 11
th at 1:00.53.
Tristan Thompson (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) finished 16
th in the 1 Mile Run with a time of 5:26.17.
