ST. PAUL –The University of Northwestern men's soccer team opened the offensive flood gates, and the goals came rolling in for the Eagles in an 8-2 victory over Crown College Saturday afternoon. Six different players scored for UNW in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match.
Northwestern's first shot came at the 5:41 mark, but it was Joshua Fryc's shot 5:41 into the game that first found the back of the net. The home team doubled its lead on the next attack as
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) notched his first score of the game 9:35 into the action.
Once again, the next opportunity UNW had on goal ended in a tally on the scoreboard with Fast's successful penalty kick attempt. With the scoreboard reading 3-0 at the 11:09 mark, the visitors notched its first attack on the Eagle's end of the field but the wide result kept the margin the same.
The Purple and Gold showed it was far from shutting down on offense and increased its lead security to 4-0 off of a
Larry Sinneh (Monrovia, Liberia/Cathedral) boot. Sinneh's shot off the post and in the back of the goal came at the 16:32 point in the half and was the senior defender's second of his career.
Fryc earned credit for a shot and followed it up with a goal less than three minutes later to secure his third goal of the weekend and provide his team with a 5-0 lead.
UNW had one more goal left in its tank for the first period, with
Sean Taylor (Sydney, Australia /Kenosha Christian Life ) earning credit for the team's sixth score of the game heading into halftime.
Thing slowed down for the Eagles on the offensive field in the second half, and Crown took advantage of an opportunity to get on the board at 65:24. The Storm owned the next offensive momentum until the 79:42 point of the contest which saw
Dayne Shackle (Stillwater, Minn. /) find
Calvin Hunter (Monroua, Liberia/South) for his first career goal.
As the clock passed the 85
th minute the visiting team on the scoreboard would find the back of the net for the second time during the contest, but 34 seconds later
Peter Olson (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) would join the scoring club and end the contest with a 9-2 final score.
The Eagles outshot the Storm by just five shots, but it was the eight successful ones that proved to make the difference for the home team.
Northwestern (4-7 overall, 4-2 UMAC) will have a quick day off before traveling just minutes southwest for a game under the lights at Augsburg College. A 7:30 p.m. game time is set, with live video available
