ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Wednesday morning, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced the Men's Soccer Postseason Awards, and the University of Northwestern placed seven players on the list.
On the First Team, freshman
Jay'ce Jones (Marina del Rey, Calif./Palisades Charter) earned his spot after an impressive debut season. He finished second on the team in goals (8), points (17), and minutes (1297), and tied for the team lead in game-winning goals with three. Jones was also recognized as UMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for his offensive efforts. Joining him on the First Team was
Simeon Friesen (Mounds View, Minn./Homeschool) for his work in the midfield. Friesen impacted the Eagles both offensively and defensively, contributing five goals (third on the team) and three assists (second on the team). He also recorded a 72 percent shots-on-target rate, demonstrating his efficiency in front of the goal. This marks Friesen's second consecutive year on the First Team and his third overall All-Conference honor.
Sophomore
Jared Mojardin (Denver, Colo./Northeast Early College) was named to the Second Team after another strong season. Mojardin led the Eagles in nearly every offensive category, including goals (9), assists (4), points (22), shots (50), and shots on target (29). He also tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals, earning Second Team honors for the second straight year.
Troy Johnson (Killeen, Texas/Killeen) also earned a spot on the Second Team for his consistent defensive presence. The junior was a key part of the back line, constantly disrupting opposing attacks and clearing out dangerous opportunities. Johnson was recognized earlier in the season as UMAC Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performances.
Curtis Tinjum (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West),
Noah Chan (Brandon, S.D./Brandon Valley), and
Nathan Martinez (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) were named to the Honorable Mention list. Tinjum, earning his first All-Conference recognition, was a steady presence in the midfield, contributing two goals and an assist. Chan also received his first All-Conference honor and was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team for his leadership and integrity as a team captain anchoring the defense. Martinez rounded out Northwestern's honorees, earning postseason recognition for the second time in his career. As a defender alongside Chan and Johnson, he stretched the field, adding one goal and two assists to his stat line this season.
