Box Score ST. PAUL --
Stephen Ricks (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) easily became the player of the game on Friday when his shot beat Crown College's Chris Scanlon and the Eagles left the Storm hanging with a 1-0 victory. The speedy Ricks' unassisted goal came 16 seconds into the second half and that was all Northwestern needed to improve to 5-6-2 overall (4-1-1 UMAC) in 2011.
Northwestern definitely didn't overlook Crown, who has the ability to score, in the game. The Eagles did maintain possession well, which was evidenced by their 9-7 advantage in shots and 5-4 margin in shots on goal.
Eric Bocan (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Anoka, Minn.Meadow Creek), the reigning UMAC Defensive Player of the Week, earned his fourth consecutive shutout victory while posting three saves in 90 minutes for NWC. Scanlon had three saves in the loss for Crown (4-6 overall, 3-3 UMAC).
The same two teams will play again on Saturday afternoon, but on different turf as the Storm hosts NWC for the second of two games on as many days betweeen the two squads. Saturday's kickoff in rural St. Bonifacius, Minn. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
