MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Wednesday night, the University of Northwestern Men's Soccer Team faced off against another strong MIAC opponent, Augsburg University. Last season, the Auggies finished third overall and currently lead the MIAC with their 2-0 start to the 2025 season.
Early in the game, Augsburg took the momentum with several free kicks, a goal that was called off, and three goals within a span of four minutes. The home team found its success riding on an aggressive high press that eliminated the Eagles' chance at an offensive break.
Northwestern had a solid look at a goal on a free kick passed over by Simeon Friesen (Mounds View, Minn./Homeschool) and kicked by Jared Mojardin (Denver, Colo./Northeast Early College) from 25 yards away. Mojardin's shot missed nearly, high and wide, to maintain a scoreless half. Augsburg tacked on another goal with 15 minutes left in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Mojardin placed another shot towards goal that sailed just above the crossbar.  Augsburg grabbed three more goals off of giveaways in the Eagles' defensive third en route to their win 7-0 against the Eagles. Northwestern took advantage of the early-season opportunity to see how different players would perform under real-game experience as they played a total of 26 players throughout the match.
Mojardin led the team in shots with three total shots and one shot on goal. Friesen, Grant Janowiec (Andover, Minn./Andover), and Steven Vela (Katy, Texas/Katy) each notched one shot attempt. Hayden DeAnnuntis (Ferndale, Wash./Ferndale) started in goal for the Eagles and collected two saves. He was subbed out by Logan Mooney (Loves Park, Ill./Belvidere North) for the final 23 minutes. Mooney grabbed one save during his tenure between the pipes.
The UNW men's team has a quick turnaround as they take on the Eagles from Emmaus University in Dubuque, Iowa, on Friday at 4:00 PM.
