ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer Team hosted North Central University on Wednesday night at Reynolds Field. The Rams scored twice in the first half to hand the Eagles a loss.
North Central struck in the third minute after a miscommunication in the box. UNW nearly responded with some smooth ball movement up the field as Braeden Morrow (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) found Dutch Broughman (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak), who sent a cross into the box. After an NCU deflection, Daniel DeWalt (Nathrop, Colo./Buena Vista) collected the ball and fired a shot on target, but the Rams' keeper made the save.
North Central added another goal in the 19th minute. Morrow, playing in the forward role instead of his usual defensive position, nearly cut into the deficit in the 39th minute. His free kick forced a leaping save from the North Central keeper.
Levi Harmes (Richfield, Minn./Homeschool) had another opportunity after a beautiful through ball from Josiah Mezey (Monument, Colo./Village) was deflected in the box. Nathan Parker (Lino Lakes, Minn./Homeschool) also created several chances in the final ten minutes, including a shot on target as the clock expired, but the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net.
Morrow led the Eagles with four shots, while Parker added three and DeWalt tallied two. Logan Hutzenbiler (Billings, Mont./Billings Central Catholic) finished with six saves in goal over 90 minutes.
The Eagles will travel to Bethany Lutheran on Saturday, October 17, for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
