Seiffert, Johnson Named UMAC Golfers of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern golf teams continue to accumulate awards this fall, with the latest two coming from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) was named UMAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week on Tuesday morning, while Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), fresh off an NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week honor on Monday, took home UMAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week.

The entire UMAC press release can be found here.

This is the fifth time in his storied career that Seiffert has won the weekly conference honor. The three-time First Team All-UMAC golfer certainly earned it, beginning the week by winning medalist honors at the NCCAA North Central Regional with a two day score of -1 (73, 70). His efforts also led Northwestern to the team title, automatically qualifying the Eagles for the NCCAA National Championship next month in Palm Coast, Florida. Later in the week at the Midwest Region Classic, the senior fired a 73 (+1) on day one and a 74 (+2) on day two before Saturday's results were nullified due to inclement weather suspending the remainder of the tournament. His 73 put him in 27th place individually among 246 participants and helped UNW to a fourth-place finish among 45 teams. Seiffert is the second Northwestern men's golfer to win the award in as many weeks.

This is the fourth time Johnson has won the Women's Golf award, and the second time this season (September 9th). The junior took home medalist honors at the Midwest Region Classic after shooting a first-round 72 (E), which tied the program record for low individual round set by her teammate and classmate, Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan). Her performance also helped the Eagles break their own program record for team low round (303), set earlier this year, as well as win the tournament in a loaded field of 39 teams. Earlier in the week at the NCCAA North Central Regional, Johnson finished in seventh place individually and helped UNW to a second-place finish as a team. The Northwestern Women's Golf team has won the award every week of the season thus far, with Johnson and Eckman alternating as winners all four weeks.
