ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 2025 UNW Men's Indoor Track and Field season began this weekend at Macalester's Leonard Center in the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic. This meet was a great start to the season for the Eagles and Patrick Fitzgerald, who is in his first year at the helm for Northwestern.
Starting off the meet, John Shevchuk (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine), the graduate student from Ham Lake, sprinted in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. The experienced runner finished fifth in the 60 with a time of 7.30 seconds, and placed third in the 200 with a time of 23.86 seconds. Khai Greene (Buford, Ga./Mill Creek) also participated in the 200 meter dash. Today marked the first collegiate track appearance for Greene, in which he finished in 27.74 seconds, placing him 13th.
Sam Otis (Shoreview, Minn./Homeschool) also made his debut as he ran in the 1000 meter run during Saturday's meet. Otis crossed the finish line in second place, turning in a time of 3:04.37.
The Eagles had four representatives in the one mile race. Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville), Nate Moser (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian), Peter Kephart (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern), and Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) all crossed the finish line within 7 seconds of each other delivering times of 5:10.43, 5:14.74, 5:15.36 and 5:17.40, respectively.
Finishing the day for Northwestern in the 3000 meter event was Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool), Bennett Selfridge (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Christian), and Nate Moser (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian). Dueber was the first Eagle to cross the finish line, coming in fifth place with a time of 9:31.04. Selfridge logged a time of 9:54.18, coming in seventh place, and Moser placed 8th with a time of 11:00.59.
The Men's Track and Field Team will be back in action in two weeks on Saturday, February 8th at the Gopher Classic.
