ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field team made the short trip down Snelling Avenue, past Allianz Field, to the campus of Concordia-St. Paul for the Holst Invitational on Saturday. It was "PR-a-palooza" for the Eagle men on Saturday as many of the competing athletes turned in their best times in their respective events.
Will Dorch () and
Ashton Lofton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) made up the Eagles' duo of sprinters on Saturday. Dorch finished the 100M Dash in 11.70 seconds which was just .13 of second away from his best time of the spring in that event. Dorch did turn in a PR in the 200M with a time of 23.65 seconds. Lofton just missed a PR in the 100M Dash as well with a time of 12.29 seconds and was at his best in the 200M crossing the finish line at 25.61 seconds. Dorch competed in one more event and turned in his second PR of the day. This time it was the 400M Dash and he finished in 54.24 seconds.
John Thomas III (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) was bridging that gap between the sprinters and the long distance runners for the Eagles on Saturday as he was the lone competitor in purple and gold in the 800M. He was just under a second and a half away from his fastest time of the spring in that event at 2:21.22.
Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) gave it all he had in the 1500M Run and crossed the finish line just in the nick of time to grab a PR at 4:34.42. His previous best time was 4:35.59.
Nathan Eikom (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) joined Ringsmuth in turning in a PR in the 1500M. He shaved four seconds off of his previous best and crossed the finish line at 4:41.07.
Owen Van De Riet's (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) fastest time in the 5000M Run coming into Saturday was 18:03.86 and that came last weekend. In simple terms: he smashed that time on Saturday at Concordia-St. Paul. Van De Riet picked up a decisive PR in the 5000M finishing in 17:42.57.
Lofton, Ringsmuth, Eikom, and Thomas III turned in a time of 3:52.84 in the 4x400 Relay.
Jah'Kiing Joseph (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Heritage) competed in the Long Jump and finished in fifth place overall at 6.27m. This wasn't a collegiate track and field PR for the freshman because he jumped 6.34m at the UMAC Indoor Championships in February. However, this was his longest jump during this outdoor track and field season so far.
UNW's Track and Field schedule has been busy and that continues this week. The Eagles are scheduled to compete twice this week, starting on Wednesday, April 24
th at the University of Minnesota's Gary Wilson Invite.
