Men's Track and Field Back in Action at Bethel Invitational

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field team was back in action for a second consecutive weekend on Saturday. After a season that was delayed because of the snow and cold, it seems surreal to say this, but the Eagles had to battle the heat a little bit as Saturday's temperatures flirted with the low eighties in the afternoon. Under the warm sun at Bethel's track, the Eagles were able to turn in multiple career best performances.

Jah'Kiing Joseph (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Heritage) turned in a career best time in the 200M Dash. He finished in 11th place overall in an event that featured multiple Division II runners. His time of 22.45 seconds was the best of his career in that event. The freshman headed over to the field where he was able to pick up a top ten finish. He jumped 6.25m in the Long Jump to finish in 7th place overall. Joseph finished just .02m behind a Division I athlete from St. Thomas to finish in 6th place.

In addition to Joseph, John Shevchuk (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) and Owen Van De Riet (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) were the other Eagles who were able to pull out top 20 finishes in what was a meet that featured extremely difficult competition. Shevchuk earned his top 20 finish by finishing the 100M Dash in 11.27 seconds which was good enough for 19th place. Van De Riet finished in 20th place overall with a time of 19:06.86 in the 5000M Run.

Will Dorch and Ashton Lofton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) joined Shevchuk in the 100M. Dorch was able to break the 12 second barrier like his teammate, finishing in 11.57 seconds. Lofton's time in the 100M Dash was 12.14 seconds. Lofton competed in a second event, the 200M Dash. He crossed the finish line in 25.27 seconds.

Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and John Thomas III (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) represented the Eagles in the 800M. Ringsmuth led the way with a time of 2:09.49 and Thomas III was just over ten seconds behind him at 2:19.55.

Shevchuk, Dorch, Lofton and Joseph (running in that order) made up the Eagles' 4x100 Relay Team and the Eagles finished the race in 44.89 seconds.

The Eagles will continue their busy schedule next week as they have multiple meets on their schedule. The next action that the Eagles will see will be on Wednesday, April 17th at the M City Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota.
