SUPERIOR, Wis.- The University of Northwestern Men's Track and Field team was back indoors on Saturday as they competed in the Maday Classic hosted by fellow UMAC institution, the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The UMAC Indoor Championships will be taking place in exactly two weeks inside the Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse (which was also the site of Saturday's Maday Classic). As the Eagles' inch closer to that championship event, they were looking forward to Saturday's opportunity to continue to improve their times/distances on the track and in the field. Saturday's trip to Superior brought the Eagles multiple season and personal bests that will help them continue to build momentum as they near the end of the indoor season.
John Shevchuk (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) is an experienced runner for the Eagles and he understands the importance of peaking at the right time of the season. Michael Pough Jr. (Jacksonville, Fla./Joshua Christian Academy) were behind him but each turned in PR's in the event. Lofton's time was 26.71 seconds and Pough Jr. finished in 31.24 seconds.
John Thomas III (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) was the only Eagle to compete in the 400M Dash and his time of 1:02.82 landed him in 13
th place overall.
The Eagles' success in the sprinting events culminated in their 4X200M Relay team's second place finish. The team of Joseph, Lofton, Shevchuk, and Thomas III finished with a time of 1:41.48.
The long distance events also saw UNW athletes turn in personal best times.
Joshua Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) recorded a PR in the 800M Run with a time of 2:10.45. That put him in 13
th place overall.
Nathan Eikom (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) was right behind him in 15
th place with a time of 2:15.50. Eikom also competed in the 1 Mile Run and finished with a PR of 4:58.80, just sneaking under the five minute mark.
