WINTHROP, Minn. – On Saturday afternoon, the UNW Women's Cross Country team competed in the 6K at the UMAC Championship race. The Eagles finished fourth overall as a team, and impressively, six of the eight Northwestern runners raced at a new speed, running career-best times during the championship meet.
The first Northwestern runner to cross the finish line was
Caroline Ringsmuth (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove). Ringsmuth ran her personal best time of 24:24, which broke her previous time by 20 seconds. The junior set her last personal record at the UMAC Championship last year. This new time was enough to earn Caroline First Team All-Conference honors for the second time in her career, while she finished 7
th in the meet.
Isabelle Yuhanna (Ham Lake, Minn./North Lakes Academy) was the second Eagle to finish the race with a time of 24:50. She broke her personal best by 20 seconds as well. Yuhanna finished 9
th overall and received Second Team All-Conference honors for her finish.
Eleven seconds later,
Emery Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) crossed the line with a time of 25:01. Her finish placed her 11
th overall, which was enough to earn her Second Team All-Conference in her rookie season on the Cross Country team.
The fourth Northwestern runner also notched a personal record.
Allie Arredondo (Robbinsdale, Minn./Homeschool) cut 27 seconds off her fastest time. Arredondo finished 17
th overall with a time of 26:05.
Kimberlyn Case (Sleepy Eye, Minn./Litchfield) recorded a time of 28:17, beating her previous career best by one second. She finished 35
th overall and fifth for the Eagles. A few strides behind Case was Samary Acuna. Acuna notched a 36
th place finish with a final time of 28:25.
The final two runners for UNW crushed their best times by almost four minutes and two and a half minutes respectively.
Faith Matvey (Meadowlands, Minn./Lakeview Christian Academy) surpassed her previous best time of 33:14 and finished Saturday's race with a time of 29:22. Matvey finished 43
rd overall, while
Jada Rounds (Rochester, Minn./Homeschool) finished 49
th in the meet. Rounds saw 30:31 on the clock as she passed the finish line. Her career best time was 33:14.
The Eagles have qualified to race in the NCCAA National Championship on at 9 AM on November 15th in Warsaw, Indiana.
