ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer team played their second game in three days at Reynolds Field on Wednesday night. The Eagles hosted the Auggies from Augsburg University. Augsburg defeated UNW 3-0.
The Eagles came right out of the gates and got a few scoring opportunities against a very talented Augsburg team. However, the Eagles were not able to cash in and get one by the keeper, and it ended up being the Auggies who would draw first blood. The Auggies crossed a ball into the box and chipped it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead in the 17
th minute.
After that initial goal from the visiting team, it would be the defenses from each side that would dominate the game. The fans at Reynolds Field were witnesses to strong defensive efforts from both teams as the next nearly 60 minutes of the contest would take place without a goal.
Augsburg would finally break the scoreless streak in the 75
th minute and would add one more goal in the 89
th minute to defeat the Eagles 3-0.
Andrew Skoglund (Northfield, Minn./Skoglund Academy) would start the game in net for UNW and would play the entirety of the first half, picking up a save.
Bodean Gaustad (Andover, Minn./Andover) would play the second half between the pipes and racked up 3 saves.
Nathaniel Grube (Jordan, Minn./Eagle Ridge Academy),
Joey McMillin (Hugo, Minn./Centennial), and
