MANKATO, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Softball team headed to Mankato to compete in the second UMAC Crossover Tournament of the season. This weekend's tournament is hosted by Bethany Lutheran and the Eagles played North Central to kick off their weekend. The Eagles defeated the Rams 12-8.
The Eagles were able to string together a bunch of base hits to build a lead early on in the contest. In the second inning 
Grace Bentley (Omaha, Neb./Wheaton College) singled home 
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College). In the third inning 
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) singled home 
Mikayla Gee (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall), 
Jadyn Iverson (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo) doubled home 
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) and 
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian), and 
Hannah Woodworth (Panora, Iowa/Panorama) singled home 
Jadyn Iverson (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo). The Eagles led 5-0 before the Rams would storm back and take the lead.
North Central was able to draw multiple bases loaded walks to drive in runs, and a six run fourth inning gave the Rams their first lead of the game, 6-5.
However, the Eagles would respond quickly. The Eagles answered the Rams' six run fourth inning by scoring seven runs of their own in the fourth. 
Jadyn Iverson (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo), 
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College), and 
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) all had run scoring hits in the fourth inning to give the Eagles a 12-6 lead. The Rams would score two runs in the sixth inning, but it would not be enough as the Eagles held on for the 12-8 victory.
Kate Beer (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) got the start and pitched three innings for the Eagles and the freshman struck out three batters. 
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) would pitch 3.2 innings and picked up her ninth win of the season.
The Eagles were scheduled to play Minnesota-Morris on Friday night, but the game was postponed due to weather. The Eagles will now play Morris at 10:00 A.M. tomorrow morning and will play at 2:00 P.M. against Crown.
