MANKATO, Minn.- The rainy weather threw a wrench into the UMAC Crossover Tournament this weekend, but UNW Softball was able to play their scheduled game against Minnesota-Morris on Saturday night. The Eagles shutout the Cougars on their way to a 6-0 victory.
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) was fantastic in the circle for the Eagles. On her way to picking up her 10
th win of the season, the senior pitched a complete game shutout. Over her seven innings, she only gave up 5 hits and only walked one batter. Carlson was difficult to make contact against as she struck out five batters.
In addition to Carlson's dominant pitching performance, the Eagles' offense did its part as well. The Eagles got a couple of runs early as
Jadyn Iverson (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo) grounded out to second base in the first inning as
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) would score in the process. Also in the first inning,
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College) drove a single to right field scoring
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West). The Eagles had a two run lead after one frame.
In addition to her pitching,
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) put on a show on the offensive side as well and that was on full display in the middle innings. In the fourth inning, Carlson hit a triple that scored
Mikayla Gee (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall). In the sixth inning, Carlson hit an RBI single to drive in
Maggie Oehlerking (Farmington, Minn./Farmington). Carlson would then steal second base, and on a throwing error by the Cougars,
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian) would come in to score.
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College) would then hit a single to bring Carlson home. The Eagles won the game 6-0.
Telma Roesler (Hastings, Minn./Crown College) had three hits and two RBIs for the Eagles and
Sydney Lane (Altoona, Iowa/Grand View Christian),
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West), and
Grace Bentley (Omaha, Neb./Wheaton College) would all collect two hits apiece to contribute to the offensive effort.
The Eagles will make up a game that got postponed this weekend against Crown College tomorrow. The Eagles will host the Storm at Reynolds Field at 3:00 P.M.
