NORTHFIELD, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Track and Field team competed in the St. Olaf Women's Invitational on Friday night. The meet hosted by the Oles marked the final regular season meet of the indoor season for the Eagles. The squad closed out the regular season in style, as there were many personal bests and improvements on times/distances from earlier in the season.
Reigning UMAC Track Athlete of the Week
Deanna Trucksess (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) continued her impressive season on Friday night. The freshman had three top three finishes against very strong competition. Trucksess finished in second place in the 400m race, coming in just a second and a half behind the winner. Trucksess ran a 1:01.78 which is a personal best for her, and moves her into the top five for best indoor time in program history. The freshman also finished third in the 60m dash with a time of 8.24 and fourth in the 200m running a time of 26.96, which ties her own program record.
Skyla Thompson (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake) had a good day jumping for the Eagles as she improved on her collegiate pole vault mark, clearing the bar at 2.63m/8'7.5" which was good enough for a top 10 finish.
Micah Ngafua (Andover, Minn.) ran the 60m dash and finished in the top 15 with a time of 9.22 seconds. Ngafua missed a personal best by a mere .01 of a second.
Emma Mehl () made her season debut in the 800m and mile events and ran a 3:03.93 in the 800 and a 6:46.29 in the mile.
Megan Nowak (Athens, Wis./Athens) was a "jack of all trades" for the Eagles on Friday night, competing in three separate events. Nowak's best finish came in the 60m hurdles where her time of 10.92 gave her a ninth place finish.
After a strong regular season, the Eagles will compete in the UMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, starting on Friday February 25
th. The meet will take place in Superior, Wisconsin.
