ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Women's Track and Field team drove up the road to Bethel University for the Gene Glader Invitational on Saturday. The team faced athletes from Division I, II, and III on the chilly, rain-filled day at the track.
Emery Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) delivered an impressive performance in the 800 meters. She finished with a tie of her season best time with 2:17.80, which also broke the top 100 time in NCAA DIII at #97. She finished fifth overall behind three DI runners and one DII runner.
In the field,
Emily Ashton (Camas, Wash./St. Mary's Academy) threw well in the Javelin throw, with her final throw lifting her to third overall. After making finals with a best throw of 29.44m, Ashton crushed that throw with her sixth throw of 32.99m (108' 3"). She finished behind two athletes from Minnesota Duluth. Also in a throwing event,
Grace Mangelsen (Siren, Wis./Siren) threw the discus a distance of 28.22m (92' 7") and finished 20th.
Lily Hubbard (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) competed in her jumping events through the rain, placing 11th in the high jump with a height of 1.43m (4' 8.25") and finishing 17th in the triple jump. She recorded a lead of 9.26m (30' 4.75"). Jumping with Hubbard was
Katie Shilts (Cameron, Wis./Cameron). She jumped a distance of 9.67m (31' 8.75") in triple jump to come away with a 14th-place finish.

Lidia Castro (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) paced the Eagles with a 62.13-second finish in the 400 meters, for a three-second PR. She finished 13th overall.
Caroline Stokes (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove),
Jessica Redman (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam), and
Olivia Usselman (Stillwater, Minn./Math and Science Academy) got the meet started in the 3,000m Steeplechase, where they willingly ran through the water before the rain started. Stokes finished 13th, leading the Eagles with a time of 12:51.93. Redman crossed after Stokes in 13:08.55 in 14th. Usselman delivered a personal best time of 13:42.13 for 16th place.
Unfortunately, due to the increasing rainfall and cold temperatures, with several events remaining, the meet was canceled. This impacted the Eagle runners in the 200m (Wojtowski, Castro,
Emily Neumann (St. Agusta, Minn./Sauk Rapids), and Hubbard) and the 5000m runner (
Natalie Van De Riet (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville)).
