ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer team returned home for the first time in ten days on Friday afternoon when they hosted the Northland College Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks defeated the Eagles 2-0 at Reynolds Field.
It was a low scoring game that didn't produce too many offensive opportunities on either side. The difference in the game was Northland being able to push across one goal in each half (they scored in the 19
th minute and in the 58
th minute) to win 2-0. Shots on goal were hard to come by in this physical, defensive-driven contest as Northland only had six shots on goal while the Eagles were only able to muster up five. UNW outshot Northland overall in the match, 13-10.
Andrew Skoglund (Northfield, Minn./Skoglund Academy) got the start between the pipes for the Eagles and made four saves.
Jonathan-Thomas Olsen (Modesto, Calif./James Enochs High) had the most scoring chances for UNW as he fired off four shots in the contest while
David DeLoye (Wausau, Wisc./Wausau West) had two shots of his own.
The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they are back at Reynolds Field tomorrow hosting the top team in the UMAC standings, Wisconsin-Superior. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 P.M. start and will mark senior day for the Eagles as it is their last regular season home game of the season. Senior day festivities will take place right before the game.
