ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Men's Soccer team hosted the Concordia Moorhead Cobbers in a Saturday matinee, falling 0-3.
The Cobbers got off to a hot start, scoring a goal in the eighth minute.
Joe Nyagaka (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) produced a strong response, taking a swing at the Concordia keeper. CC continued to test the UNW defense. The Eagles' back line kept them from taking a grade-A chance for the next 30 minutes of play, but a bouncing corner kick snuck through to the back of the net in the 37th minute. UNW staved off another corner kick in the final five minutes and went to the locker room after another scoring chance from Nyagaka.
The Eagles started the second half on a high note with a shot from Levi Harmes (Richfield, Minn./Homeschool), creating an early corner kick opportunity. After subbing in at halftime, goalie Logan Hutzenbiler (Billings, Mont./Billings Central Catholic) was tested often and early, but UNW was able to hold them off for much of the frame. Despite the Eagles' best efforts, a well-timed substitution from the Cobbers produced their third and final goal of the contest.
UNW soccer will next be in action on Wednesday, September 16, when they host Buena Vista University.
