Box Score ASHLAND, Wis. – The University of Northwestern women's volleyball team traveled to Northland College Saturday for an afternoon conference match. The Eagles won easily in three; 25-18, 25-16 and 25-13.
UNW moves to 18-5 overall and 3-0 in the UMAC.
Set one went back and forth until the Eagles pulled ahead with a
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) kill and ace to go up 18-12 on the Lumber Jills. Four straight points for Northwestern saw them winning set one 25-18.
In set two Northland continued to fight but were overtaken by the Eagles, 25-16. UNW had 12 kills to the Jills six and hit .357 in set two.
The third and final set on the day came with an early run for Northwestern to go up 7-2 on Northland. The Eagles were unable to get many long runs of points as the Lumber Jills played scrappy defense and kept things lively. Ultimately, UNW pulled out the sweep with a third set final score of 25-13.
Gabby Straub (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) led the Eagles with nine kills, hitting .375 on the day.
Kalley Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./Central Christian) downed five kills while
Caitlyn Pruis (Sioux Falls, SD./Sioux Falls Christian) and
Talia Gruthusen (Dryer, Ind./Lake Central) each added four.
Sydney Schwitters (Clara City, Minn./MACRAY) dished out 20 assists on the day. The Eagles tallied seven aces on the day.
Next up for UNW will be Thursday evening as they host the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings in the Ericksen Center beginning at 5 pm.
