Box Score WATERTOWN, Wis. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team headed to Watertown, Wisconsin for a Tuesday afternoon showdown against Maranatha Baptist. It was total domination by the Eagles who would come out victorious with a final score of 2-0. With this win, the Eagles now sit at 2-3 on the season.
The Eagles were in control the whole match, getting on the board early at the 17:53 minute mark in the first half when junior defender
Jakob Wesselink (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar High School) scored off an assist from
Samuel Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis Central). Wesselink has now scored in two straight matches after being the lone scorer in last Saturday's matchup vs Dordt. The Eagles would end the first half with 10 shots compared to Maranatha's 5.
UNW would come out aggressive in the second half with 3 shots in the first 5 minutes. UNW's aggressiveness would lead to another score late in the match at the 84:02 mark when Samuel Jorgenson got the Eagles on the board to make it 2-0.
The Eagles led the way in total shots with 22 and 9 shots on goal compared to Maranatha's 8 shots and 3 shots on goal. Freshman
Luke McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield High School) was the leader in that department with 5 shots while
Jakob Wesselink (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar High School),
Cole Alfrey (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn) and
Samuel Hendry (Spooner, Wis./Spooner High School) all tied with 3 shots.
Andrew Skoglund (Northfield, Minn./Homeschool) also added 3 saves for the match.
The Eagles will look to pick up their second straight win on Thursday, October 1
