Sitting atop the Central Region is St. Thomas, who the Eagles faced in early October and fell in a tough three-setter. Northwestern played two tough matches against No. 3 St. Benedict and also faced No. 2 St. Olaf this season. UNW recorded wins over Midwest Region's No. 3 UW-Eau Claire in four sets and New York Region's No. 6 Kean in a quick three-setter. Most recently, the Eagles met up with Wartburg, falling in a five set battle as the Knights slid one spot above UNW in this week's rankings.

The Eagles open up UMAC tournament play Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the University of Wisconsin-Superior in St. Paul. With a win Wednesday, the Eagles would host the conference championship match Saturday. Rankings will ultimately determine NCAA tournament selections.
