Volleyball and Women’s Soccer to Host UMAC Championship Contests Saturday

ST. PAUL – It will be Championship Saturday on campus at the University of Northwestern tomorrow, as the women's soccer and volleyball teams will both host Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Championship contests. The women's soccer team will play host to the College of St. Scholastica at 4:30 p.m., followed by the volleyball team taking on Minnesota Morris inside the Ericksen Center at 7 p.m.

The top-seeded volleyball team (25-8) is coming off a thrilling five-set win over St. Scholastica on Wednesday night, as the Eagles rallied from a two-set deficit to top the visiting Saints. Read more here.

The Eagles, who defeated UMM last Wednesday in St. Paul to claim the regular season conference crown, will look for their fourth consecutive UMAC Tournament title. The Cougars edged Northwestern in five sets at the UMAC Preview Tournament in September.

The women's soccer team (13-5) scored with under five minutes remaining in the game to knock off Northland, 3-2, Wednesday night in a dramatic come-from-behind win. Read more here.

Saturday's contest will be the second meeting between the Saints and Eagles this season, as Northwestern came away 1-0 winners over St. Scholastica on Sept. 19. The top-seeded Eagles will look to make their first NCAA tournament since 2010.

The winner of each contest will receive the UMAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Read more on the championship games here.
