Eagles close out Augsburg Invite with win over Gustavus Adolphus

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern volleyball team closed out the two-day Augsburg College Invitational with a win on Saturday, defeating Gustavus Adolphus College in four sets. UNW libero Lizzy Potratz (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian ) was named to the weekend's all-tournament team.

Northwestern hit .294 or better in each of the first three sets, but found itself tied at one set apiece going into the third round against the Gusties. UNW put up what will most likely be one of its top sets of the 2014 season in the third when the Eagles had 20 kills and just two errors for a .400 hitting rate.

Leading 2-1, the Purple and Gold struggled down the stretch of the fourth set, but earned the needed two points to break a 24-24 score, winning the set 26-24 and the match 3-1.

Four different Eagles recorded double-digit kills including freshman Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork), who paced Northwestern with 19 kills. Peterson's sister, Hallie Mueth (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork), added 15 kills and a .467 attacking rate to help UNW's efforts. Lizzy Jonas (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian ) tallied 56 attempts as the Eagles finished with a .283 team hitting percentage.

Defensively, Potratz had 20 digs, with Mueth and Peterson right behind at 18 and 17, respectively.

Now 4-3 on the season, Northwestern will head into a third tournament weekend on September 12-13 at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The Eagles will play four matches over the course of the two days, two of which will be against AVCA Top 25 opponents.
