Box Score ST. PAUL— The University of Northwestern men's soccer team held strong, but the College of St. Scholastica ended Saturday's contest with a 6-3 victory over the Eagles. Despite their conference win last night, the Purple and Gold could not hold a back-to-back win on their Reynolds Field.
After 36 minutes of battling for a goal, Scholastica's Shawayne Folkes put the visitors on the board as goalkeeper
Shane Coleman (Wyoming, Minn./Homeschool) came out of the net to make the save. With a wide open net, the Saints took the lead, going into half with a one-point advantage.
The second period heated up quickly with three additional goals from the CSS across the board. One included a goal from Tom Corcoran in the 50th minute from a free kick 20 yards back. However, the Eagles responded soon after with two additional goals. With 34 minutes left on the clock,
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) fired a header in the back corner off of a cross from Daniel Clotaire and less than three minutes later
David Mooers (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) added another goal to the Eagle scoreboard. Wasting no time, the Blue and Gold responded with two additional goals, leading the Eagles 6-2 with 17 minutes remaining in the game.
In the 81st minute,
Joshua Fryc (Harris, Minn./Homeschool) buried a shot in the upper corner of the goal from 20 yards back. The Purple and Gold were unable to match the visitors' offensive force, securing a 6-3 Scholastica victory.
Northwestern (1-7 overall, 1-2 UMAC) will hit the road next weekend for more conference play as they take on Minnesota Morris on Friday at 4 p.m. and Martin Luther on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
