Box Score COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern secured a 3-0 shutout over North Central University Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) took charge in the 18th minute with a goal assisted by
Sam Diatta (Ziguinchor, Senegal/St. Paul Central). As the strong offensive push continued,
Robbie Denniston (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Ethan Hart (Marshall, Minn./Marshall) just missed the goal by heading them high and wide within minutes of the first goal.
Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) was the second to execute with his first goal of the afternoon.
Just six minutes into the second period,
Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) scored his second goal of the night. McCann, with four shots on goal this afternoon, currently leads the Eagles in goals this season with five as a freshman. The three goals for the Eagles proved to be enough as time ran out for the Rams to respond.
North Central's Andrew Eliason racked 10 saves for the day, but unfortunately was outnumbered by the Eagles' offensive push. Overall, UNW out-shot NCU 23-2 with 13 shots on goal compared to the Rams solo shot. Defensively, freshman goalkeeper
Turner Main (Kewauee, Wis./Kewaunee) earned the shutout for the Eagles.
Northwestern (3-9-1, 3-3-1 UMAC) will face North Central for the second time this week as the Eagles host the Rams at 5:15 p.m Saturday night for homecoming. Next weekend conference play will continue at home as they take on Martin Luther College on Friday at 1 p.m. and the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday at 4 p.m.
