ST. PAUL – Northwestern College tallied its first goal and first win of the season Friday afternoon in a matchup against Bethel University.

The Eagles entered Friday's game scoreless on the year, but that all changed when Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) found the back of the net in the second half. Mann's goal came after he beat his defender in a one-on-one situation on the left side of Reynolds field. His shot from 10 yards out gave NWC a 1-0 advantage, which proved to be enough to win the game.

Shane Coleman (Wyoming, Minn./Homeschool) held off all Bethel goal attempts, earning the shutout for Northwestern. The victory also marked Coleman's first collegiate win.

The Eagles will look to build upon Friday's success when they open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at 4:30 p.m. next Friday, September 7, against Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. The next day, the Eagles will take on Bethany Lutheran College in another UMAC contest, taking place at 2:30 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.
