NWC unable to withstand St. Scholastica offense

DULUTH, Minn. – The Northwestern College men's soccer team was unable to extend their winning streak to six games after faltering in Saturday's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game against the College of St. Scholastica. The Saints scored two goals in the first half and tacked on three more in the second to post a five-goal advantage on the Eagles.

St. Scholastica first got on the scoreboard around 15 minutes into the first half and followed that with another goal in the 42nd minute. The home team scored again quickly into the second period, earning a 3-0 lead over NWC. The Saints scored two more times on the afternoon as their fourth goal came at the 70:00 mark and their fifth got past the Purple and Gold's defense with three minutes left on the clock.

The Eagles were unable to return St. Scholastica's scoring drives and posted two shots compared to the host team's 21.

After playing three games in five days, NWC will get nearly a week to recover before heading to Morris, Minn. for a Friday, September 28 contest with the University of Minnesota, Morris. The Eagles will meet the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. following the women's 2 p.m. matchup. The next day, the Eagles will round out their weekend by traveling to Crown College. Saturday's game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Northwestern (5-3-0 overall, 3-1-0 UMAC) currently holds second place in conference standings after Saturday's competition.
