Women's Basketball earns 79-52 road win

Box Score MINNEAPOLIS – In a game that saw the Northwestern women's basketball team earn advantages in nearly every statistical category, the Eagles earned its third victory of the season by a 79-52 margin against North Central University in the non-conference contest Tuesday evening.

After North Central scored the first basket of the game 49 seconds into regulation, Northwestern took over and rarely looked back. The Eagles posted a six-point lead at the 13:59 mark as a result of a Jessica Fife (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) close-range make, followed by a Mollie Sir (Cresco, Iowa/Crestwood) triple and Courtney Cunard (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) fast break layup. The Rams held close until the 14th minute, before NWC capitalized on a 10-point advantage and ran the lead up to 18 at the 3:44 mark and eventually ended the half holding the upper hand on a 41-21 score.

The Purple and Gold picked up right where it left off in the second period after Chanel Madson (Westbrook, Minn./Westbrook-Walnut Grove) scored the first bucket of the half from beyond the arc at the 2:01 mark, pushing the score to 44-21. Northwestern would eventually own a 27-point margin before the mid-point of the last 20 minutes thanks to a Becca Kendrick (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) nailed jumper. The home team on the scoreboard responded with scores of its own, but the Eagle offensive train kept rolling, eventually ending the game at 79-52.

The visitors posted a 44.6% field goal percentage over the span of 40 minutes, in comparison to the Rams' 36.4 mark. Success from three-point range continued for NWC as the team made 12-30 attempts, good enough for a .40 success rate.

For the second consecutive game, the Eagles had four scorers reach double-digits. Sir led all players with 17 points, followed by Cunard and Fife with 11 and Hannah Holm (Charlotte, N.C./GRACE School) with 10. Fife posted nearly a double-double on the night, bringing in nine rebounds, including six offensive boards.

NWC had 15 different players see the court in Tuesday night's contest en route to outscoring the host team in bench points, 25-15.

Next up for Northwestern (3-5) overall is a return to the Ericksen Center for a 5 p.m. contest versus Hamline University Friday night.
