ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The University of Northwestern Women's Basketball Team wrapped up its 2025-2026 season on Saturday afternoon at Crown College on the Polar's senior day. Despite their quick start, the shots stopped falling in the second half, giving the Polars the advantage, finishing 35-59 in the final contest of the year.
Northwestern came out strong, jumping to a 15-6 lead with the first eight points coming from freshman Emma Korinek (New Brighton, Minn./Concordia Academy). The Eagles held a one-point advantage at the end of the first quarter, but a 12-0 run by Crown through the close of the first quarter and the start of the second quarter shifted the momentum and gave the Polars a five-point lead heading into halftime. The difference in the opening half came at the free-throw line and on the glass. Crown attempted 15 free throws to Northwestern's zero and pulled down eight offensive rebounds compared to none for the Eagles.
The second half ultimately decided the game. Northwestern went 0-18 from beyond the arc and managed just six points in both the third and fourth quarters. The third-quarter points came from Korinek, Ella Frazier (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi), and Marin Blom (Farmington, Minn./Farmington). Blom and Korinek accounted for four of the Eagles' final six points, with the last bucket of the season coming from Brenna Vogel (New Prague, Minn./South Metro). The Polars defended well, not allowing any UNW momentum down the stretch. With the win, they snapped Northwestern's 15-game win streak.
The Eagles finish the year 6-18 overall, gaining valuable experience and growth as a young team, as they can return every player next season. Korinek led the charge with 12 points and seven rebounds. Frazier filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven boards, two steals, and two blocks, while Blom added seven points, six rebounds, and two assists.
Northwestern now turns its attention to the 2026–27 season, which will begin game play on November 7 against Macalester College.
