BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Northwestern College got back on the right track on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-15) victory over Crown College following the Eagles' first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) loss at the University of Minnesota Morris the night before. NWC posted one of its best hitting percentages of the season (.410). while holding the host-Storm to a .038 rate.
Northwestern hit 10 points before Crown had managed to put five points on the scoreboard in both the first and second sets of Saturday morning, while the Eagles took a little longer to establish a wide margin in Set 3. 11 different Northwestern players saw time on the court, including
Lizzy Potratz (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian ), who led the Purple and Gold with 11 kills. Potratz was one of six NWC hitters to put up a .391 or better attacking mark.
Lydia Palkert (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) added nine kills on 15 attempts, while
Krista Stoltz (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had 38 of the team's 41 setting assists.
On defense, the Eagles out-blocked Crown (3-18) 7-1 while owning a 37-28 advantage in digs.
Courtney Jonas (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) led all players with four blocks, while
Lexi Bertsch (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) was Northwestern's digs leader as the junior tallied nine.
Now 15-8 overall (6-1 UMAC), Northwestern will get a solid several days of practice in the next week before heading south to face Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College next Friday and Saturday.
