ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College men's soccer team was unable to stretch its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) win streak to four games on Saturday afternoon in the final contest of the 2012 regular season. The Eagles gave up just one goal, but that score proved costly as the team fell to the University of Minnesota Morris 1-0.

NWC started off the game with strong offensive gusto, posting four shots within the first 10 minutes of the contest. Unfortunately for the Eagles, those scoring attempts were returned by the visiting Cougars and resulted in an own goal situation in which a deflection off a Northwestern defender ended up in the home team's goal, giving Minnesota Morris a 1-0 advantage at the 20:55 mark.

The Purple and Gold continued to push the ball up the field and put itself in scoring positions throughout the remainder of the game, but all 11 of the attempts on goal were fended off by the Minnesota Morris defense.

Apart from the final score, the matchup featured similar statistic results, as the two teams posted nearly the same amount of total shots and saves while posting identical totals of shots on goal and fouls.

Saturday's 2012 finale featured the final regular season home game for Northwestern's seniors, Paul Ojambo (St. Paul, Minn./Minnehaha Academy), Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central), and Joel Ottley (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy).

After clinching a berth into the UMAC playoffs with Friday's win over Crown College, Northwestern (10-8-2, 8-4-2 UMAC) can now look forward to meeting a familiar opponent on Tuesday as they travel west to Morris, Minnesota for another faceoff with the Cougars. The teams will begin play at 11:30 a.m. as they strive to continue their 2012 campaigns beyond the semifinal round of postseason play.  More information about the championship tournament can be found here.
