ST. PAUL – Northwestern College saw what a top 25 program looked like on Tuesday as the Eagles lost to 14th-ranked Carleton College 8-0 at Reynolds Field. NWC was out-shot 19-3 on its home turf, and twice gave up multiple goals within two minutes of one another.
Of Northwestern's three shots, just one of them was on goal. Meanwhile, Carleton's Simon Ginet and Branden McGarrity each recorded two goals, with both coming on back-to-back occasions. Ginet took credit for the first goal of the day, which came just over five minutes into the 90 minute contest.
Carleton led 3-0 at halftime, but the Knights were far from done scoring at the break. Derek Funk struck for Carleton's fourth goal of the game at the 49:46 mark before the visitors' Alex Voorhees put a goal past Northwestern goalkeeper
Eric Bocan (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek) just nine seconds later to increase the Knights' lead to 5-0.
Bocan had six saves during his nearly 55 minutes minding the net for NWC before yielding to
Shane Coleman (Wyoming, Minn./Homeschool), who produced two saves amidst two goals in the remaining 35 minutes.
Now 7-7-2 overall, Northwestern will return to its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule this weekend, with games against Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther College on the docket. The Eagles will face the Vikings from Bethany Lutheran at 1 p.m. on Friday before hosting Martin Luther at Mounds View High School at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
