ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College men's soccer team braved the rain at Reynolds Field on Saturday, but was unable to come out with a win, dropping an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest to the College of St. Scholastica by a 3-0 margin.
The Eagles held strong on defense throughout the first half, stopping nine of the Saints' first half shots. In the 42
nd minute of play, however, the visitors were able to thread a shot through NWC's defense, putting them up 1-0 as both teams headed into halftime.
After St. Scholastica's first goal, the Purple and Gold was unable to recover and gave up two more goals, with the first coming at the 48:06 mark and the second with under nine minutes remaining in regulation.
The Eagles were unable to get into an offensive rhythm Saturday as they posted just one shot in comparison to the Saints' 18. On the defensive end of the field,
Shane Coleman (Wyoming, Minn./Homeschool) tallied six saves throughout the 90 minutes of play.
Northwestern (7-6-2, 5-3-2 UMAC) is currently in third place among conference teams heading into the final weeks of UMAC play. The team will return to Reynolds Field on Tuesday as Carleton College will travel to St. Paul for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup.
