Gameday: Volleyball vs. Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL -- For the first time in nearly two weeks, the Northwestern College volleyball team returns to its home court in the Ericksen Center for three matches in two days.  The Eagles open UMAC play on Friday night with a match against Bethany Lutheran College.

NWC is having one of its best starts in 2011, currently boasting an 11-2 overall record and a five-match winning streak.  The Eagles returned from last weekend's Macalester College Invitational unscathed, defeating all four of their opponents in quick 3-0 matches.  Outside hitter Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and setter Krista Stoltz (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) were named the UMAC Offensive Player and Setter of the Week after their performances at the Macalester tournament.  Stoltz is currently ranked ninth amongst all NCAA Division III setters with 10.88 assists per set.

Bethany Lutheran, who was picked to finish fifth in the UMAC standings by the league coaches before the season began.  Vikings Head Coach Sue Forrey returns for her second year on the bench after guiding Bethany to an overall record of 11-17 and a 6-8 mark in conference play. The Vikings come to the Ericksen Center with a 4-10 record in 2011, having lost their most recent match to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa on Tuesday night.

Following Friday's match, Northwestern won't be able to rest long as the Eagles will host a triangular on Saturday with Martin Luther College and Gustavus Adolphus College.
