Game Reaction: Head Coach Aaron Kahl

ST. PAUL -- Northwestern College hung with the Scots from Macalester College for most of Tuesday's first half, but the visitors ran away in the second period before the game ended with a 63-50 final score. Jessica Fife (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) had her best game in an Eagles uniform, scoring 10 points while gathering 15 rebounds for a double-double.

Despite Macalester's athleticism, Northwestern played with the Scots, scoring needed baskets at the right times. When Macalester got up by four or five, the Eagles answered with a layup from Kristin Sczublewski (Pierz, Minn./Pierz) or a three-pointer from Mollie Sir (Cresco, Iowa/Crestwood). Macalester led 17-11 at the 11:06 mark, but Ashley Arneson (Woodbury, Minn./Tartan) made a pair of free throws before buckets from Fife and Sir knotted the score five minutes later. NWC led briefly after back-to-back makes at the charity stripe before the Scots scored the final six points of the half to lead 28-22 at the break.

Macalester kept up its pressure on defense, forcing 18 second-half turnovers by the Eagles in the second half while outscoring the Purple and Gold 24-8 in the paint at the same time. What was once a seven-point lead turned into 21 with 8:33 left on a Holly Schiedermayer lay-up. NWC cut the margin to 11 on a 10-0 run before Schiedmayer made up for the 63-50 final score with a basket in the final 15 seconds.

Northwestern shot 32 percent for the game, making up for their 18-percent mark from the first half with a 45 percent second half. The Eagles finished an even 50 percent shooting percentage from behind the three-point line, draining seven of their 14 attempts.

Fife was all over the boards, accounting for over a third of the team's total rebounds.  Behind four treys, Sir led all players with 17 points, while Sczublewski added 16.  Schiedermayer had 14 points to lead the Scots, who shot 34 percent for the game.

Northwestern, now 1-4 on the season, will take a needed Thanksgiving break before returning to the practice court in preparation for the University of Wisconsin-Superior next Wednesday, Nov. 30.  The Eagles will head north to face the Yellow Jackets for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
