Box Score MINNEAPOLIS – Northwestern College is on an eight-game undefeated streak after handing Bethany Lutheran College a 3-1 loss on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Eagles improve to 8-6-2 on the season and 7-1-1 in UMAC games.
For the second time in three days,
Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) scored Northwestern's first goal of the game after he took an assist from
Edgar Renteria (Mexico City, Mexico/Brooklyn Center) (Mexico City, Mexico/Brooklyn Center) and beat the Vikings' Noah Heidorn late in the 15th minute.
After a 1-0 NWC lead at halftime, things heated up midway through the second period when the electric
Stephen Ricks (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) put back a shot after Mann had fired from 20 yards out that rebounded off of Heidom's hands at the 72:32 mark. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they got a little too aggressive in the box just five minutes later and Bethany Lutheran's CK Pock took advantage of a penalty kick to bring the Vikings within a goal of the Purple and Gold at 2-1.
Less than 70 ticks after Pock's successful PK, Northwestern's
Josh Franzen (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) headed a
Mike Musson (Fidley, Minn./Spring Lake Park) (Fridley, Minn./Spring Lake Park) corner kick into the net for an insurance goal that fortunately was never needed, as the Eagles coasted to the 3-1 final in 90 minutes.
NWC handled Bethany with 13 shots, 10 of which were on goal, while the Vikings had five shots, all of which Eagles goalkeeper
Eric Bocan (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek) had to make an attempt at. Northwestern will now shift its focus to Thursday, Oct. 20, when the Eagles will head west to the University of Minnesota Morris for a key UMAC matchup, which is slated to kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
