NWC, Minnesota-Morris settle for 1-1 tie

MORRIS, Minn. – The Northwestern College men's soccer team battled with the University of Minnesota, Morris for 110 minutes on Saturday, but neither team could score its second goal of the game and the Eagles and Cougars settled for a 1-1 tie.

David Mugambira (Waltham/Vienna College, Kampala Uganda) (Waltham, Mass./Kampala Uganda) scored NWC's only goal in the 85th minute, putting a shot past Morris' Tyler Simpson. For the second time this season, the Eagles were unable to close out the final minute of the game, as the Cougars' Ryan Cadigan scored the equalizer with five seconds left on the clock.

Neither team could gain an advantage in two overtime periods, and Northwestern and Morris left the field with a 1-1 final score. The Cougars out-shot NWC 14-8 and held a 2-0 advantage on corner kicks. Josh Niedermayer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Morraine) earned seven saves in the game.

NWC will return to action next Monday as the Eagles face Augsburg College in Minneapolis at 7:30 p.m. Northwestern will then return home to host Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther College in UMAC action on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24 and 25.
