Box Score

MORRIS, Minn. -- Northwestern College ran into the best team in the UMAC conference on Friday evening, as the University of Minnesota, Morris defeated the Eagles 77-57. With the win, the Cougars claimed at least a share of the league title while NWC was dealt its fourth straight loss.

Northwestern trailed by 14 points at halftime after Morris made over half of its shots in the initial period, doubling up the Eagles' 27 percent performance. While NWC improved drastically in the second half, the Eagles effort wasn't enough, as Steph Roggenbuck and the rest of the Morris squad kept making 3-pointers en route to a 20-point difference.

Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored 20 points to go with eight rebounds for Northwestern, but no other Eagles player hit double digit points. Tanya Dickey (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) scored nine points in the loss, while Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) chipped in seven points and seven boards.

Roggenbuck accounted for 21 of the Cougars' 77 points, adding 10 rebounds for the double-double. Tara Thielke (15 points) and Nikki Washek (12) rounded out Morris' top three scorers. As a team, Morris made 13 of its 24 3-point attempts.

With the loss, Northwestern falls to 12-11 overall and 7-6 in conference play. Morris improves to 18-6 overall (12-1 UMAC). The Eagles, who currently maintain a one-game lead over St. Scholastica for third place in the conference standings, will look to rebound on Saturday, when they face Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. for the final game of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
