NEW ULM, Minn. -- Northwestern College won its second straight game on Friday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Martin Luther College. The Eagles have now gone four games without a loss and will look to extend that streak on Saturday at Bethany Lutheran College.
Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) scored the only goal of the game after Jeremy Stiner (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) centered the ball and Mann kicked it in to an open net in the 50th minute. The goal was Mann's second game-winner of the 2010 season.
The Eagles out-shot their opponents 20-11 in the game, while Josh Niedermayer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Morraine) tallied four saves en route to his fifth shutout of the year. On the other side of the field, Benjamin Zietlow also had four saves while yielding the one goal.
With the win, Northwestern improves to 7-5-2 on the year and 6-1-1 in UMAC play. The Vikings from Bethany Lutheran will welcome the Eagles to Mankato, Minn. on Saturday for a 12 p.m. contest.
