Volleyball looks to Friday triangular after 3-0 sweep over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL – Northwestern College handed Bethany Lutheran College a 3-0 defeat on Thursday night, winning the first of the Eagles' three matches in consecutive days. NWC posted 43 kills on the night, compared to just 28 for the visiting Vikings.

Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) quietly recorded 14 kills and a .400 attacking percentage as Northwestern won 25-17, 25-18, 25-20. Greta King (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) chipped in with 11 kills of her own while Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) tallied 39 assists, allowing the Eagles to improve to 17-10 overall and 7-1 in UMAC play.  As a team, Northwestern finished the match with a .290 attacking percentage.

No Bethany Lutheran player had more than six kills as the Vikings (8-12 overall, 3-5 UMAC) finished the night with a .118 attacking rate. Northwestern's defense played a part in Bethany Lutheran's woes as the Eagles accounted for 43 digs and three blocks, two of which came from Kaelee Kendrick (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy), who filled in for the injured Courtney Jonas (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian) (Neenah, Wis./Victory Christian) in the middle. Kelsey Korporal (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) led NWC with 15 digs, while King and Danielle Rhodes (Iowa City, Iowa/City) (Iowa City, Iowa/City) followed with nine and eight digs, respectively.

Northwestern returns to its home court on Friday afternoon as part of a three-team triangular match. The Eagles will play Martin Luther College in UMAC action at 4 p.m. before hosting Bethel University in a match that is scheduled to begin at approximately 7 p.m. Martin Luther and Bethel will fill in the middle time slot, which is slated for 5:30 p.m. NWC will host its annual Dig Pink! event in conjunction with the triangular as the Eagles team up with the Side Out Foundation for breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to Friday's matches.
