Stiner, Franzen score in Eagles' win over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL -- A successful penalty kick by Jeremy Stiner (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) gave Northwestern College the go-ahead goal over Bethany Lutheran College on Friday. Josh Franzen (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek)'s (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) insurance goal solidified the Eagles' victory as the Eagles look forward to Saturday's game against Martin Luther.

Stiner's penalty kick, which beat Vikings' goalkeeper Cameron Koopman in the top-right corner of the net, came in the 35th minute of the game. After a 1-0 Eagles lead at halftime, Franzen came off the bench to score his unassisted goal at the 77:55 mark.

Josh Niedermayer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Morraine) posted four saves en route to earning his third shutout of the year. Northwestern out-shot Bethany Lutheran 18-10 while owning a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Eagles will be back in action in less than 24 hours as Northwestern hosts Martin Luther at Reynolds Field at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
