Women's Hoops coasts to 91-34 win over Crown

Box Score

ST. PAUL -- After a back-and-forth first few minutes in Saturday afternoon's women's basketball game, Northwestern College dominated the rest of the contest in a 91-34 final in the Ericksen Center.  With fans donning pink in recognition of the Eagles' WBCA Pink Zone event to raise breast cancer awareness, the home team held the upper hand over their opponents in every statistical category en route to a lopsided victory.

With the Eagles down by two points, Tanya Dickey (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) put her team ahead for good with a three-pointer at the 14:12 mark of the first half.  Northwestern went on a tear from there, finishing the first half on a 38-4 run to lead 44-12 at the break.  The Storm gave NWC a better effort in the second half, but the Eagles sent Crown packing with a 57-point loss.

Northwestern made exactly half of its 72 attempts from the floor and 41 percent of its attempts from downtown.  The Eagles outrebounded their opponents 50-28 while owning a 42-18 upper hand in points in the paint.  Crown made 30 percent of its 50 attempts on the night.

Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) dropped 30 or more points on the Storm for the second game this season with 34, adding five assists and four steals.  Allison Johnson (Plymouth, Minn./Heritage Christian) (Greenfield, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy) had one of the best all-around performances that the Eagle program has seen in a while, scoring 13 points and dishing out 10 assists while grabbing six boards.  Kaelee Kendrick (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy), Megan Myhre (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) and Dickey all scored in double figures as well with 13, 11 and 10.

Crown's high-scorer was Judy Mundt with nine points.

The Eagles improve to 11-7 overall and 6-2 in UMAC play with the win, while Crown falls to 0-13 overall and 0-8 in the conference.  Northwestern will take several days off before playing again next Friday, Feb. 5. when the Eagles host Bethany Lutheran College in a 5:30 p.m. affair.
